The Soft Winter Edit

What Is Soft Winter?

Soft Winter is one of the most misunderstood seasons in color analysis. It sits at the intersection of Cool Winter and Cool Summer, borrowing the depth and contrast of Winter with just a touch of Summer's softness.

Soft Winter is fully cool. There is no warmth tolerance in this season. Even the subtlest warm tones can throw off the harmony of a Soft Winter's coloring.

Soft Winter is primarily a Winter. The Summer influence is real, but it is light.

Soft Winter retains genuine Winter brightness, veiled with a gray dusting borrowed from Summer. "Muted" alone does not describe this season accurately.

Soft Winter is frequently confused with Soft Summer, but the two are quite different. Soft Winter has more depth, more coolness, and less muting than Soft Summer. If warm tones drain you and gray is your best neutral, you are likely closer to Soft Winter.
